About Pierre:<\/strong><\/p>

I started doing landscape photography when I was living in London. It was the perfect medium and genre for me to remind people of the beautiful world we call home and the importance of taking care of it in order to preserve its beauty for future generations.\u00a0<\/p>

However, I found that a thousand words were not enough to tell my story anymore and have since turned to surrealism\/conceptual photography to do so. This genre is a magical world with endless possibilities and perfect for storytelling and individualism. It enables me to express matters and views that are close to my heart. One of them being my love for animals, my concern for their future and my disappointment in the human race for our involvement in their suffering and struggle for survival.\u00a0<\/p>

As a South African the poaching of rhinos and elephants for their ivory breaks my heart and I created a few conceptual pieces with this as a subject in the hope to raise more awareness.<\/p>

When I came across Quo Vadis Africa\u2019s movement: T-shirts for change, to raise funds for their work with Shongweni Nature Reserve, wildlife and the local community; I immediately realised that this is where I can give something back.<\/p>

This piece is about the extinction of the rhino. The girl represents the human race and the rhino is the last one remaining. They are both very emotional as they watch footage of rhinos no longer with us. With the rate things are going, we will only have footage and photos left of many species to remind us of them. About Rebecca:<\/strong><\/p>

My name is Rebecca Lane. I am a self-taught South African artist. I have lived in the Middle-East and in 2019 my family and I travelled a year through Africa. This was an eye opening experience and I\u2019m forever grateful that we could show our daughter the diversity of our land and pique her interest in conservation and the incredible animals that we share Africa with. The trip also provided me with great inspiration for artworks.\u00a0<\/p>

I paint in acrylics mainly on canvas, and where it\u2019s nice to sell my work, I think it\u2019s also of huge importance to use my gift in a positive way from time to time. I have previously donated artworks for various raffles for our local animal shelter, to raise money for a local school program, as well as Lifeline Western Cape.\u00a0<\/p>

The design that I\u2019m donating to Quo Vadis Africa is called \u201cBlack and White unite\u201d. It is truly how I feel, that we as humanity need to unite, not necessarily in a political way but as humans, using our voice, raising awareness and coming together.\u00a0<\/p>

I love my country, I love our continent and I love that individuals, volunteers, organisations and many entities are keeping Africa and her conservation alive. The good is easily dismissed and overlooked in a world that thrives on drama, politics and sensationalism. About Ianthe:<\/strong><\/p>

I grew up in the south of England but moved to South Africa nearly 50 years ago. Following the family tradition, I sign my painting with just my initials. Despite focusing on watercolour in the early years of my career, I now paint and draw in a variety of different media, specialising in pencil portraits of animals and people, along with a new love of printing.
<\/p>

I was on the committee of the Watercolour Society of South Africa for many years and chairman of the Johannesburg branch for 4 years. During that time, I participated in many open exhibitions, also becoming a regular judge for the juried exhibitions. In 2006 I had the honour of being made Fellow of the Society, as well as becoming a full member of the Society of Floral Painters based in the UK.<\/p>

I'm a chemical engineering student and part-time artist. Art is my first love and my goal is to make my work known to the world. It is a great joy to see people's delight in what I create.\u00a0<\/p>

I have loved creating from a young age \u2013 drawing pictures on walls and even\u00a0 on a sidewalk as a 5 year old!\u00a0 \u00a0 I took art as a Matric subject at school and went on to study it further at University.\u00a0 Over the years, I have studied with a couple of artists and art studios. I am inspired by the\u00a0 \u2018old masters\u2019 of art and love nature.\u00a0 During lockdown, I have found such peace and beauty being in nature, in my back garden \u2013 watching and sketching the flowers, trees, small creatures and birds.<\/span><\/p>

About Bel\u00e9n:<\/strong><\/p>

My name is Bel\u00e9n and I live in Rome. I was born in the north of Spain in a small town called Le\u00f3n. I graduated in Performing Arts in London where I lived for four years. I am passionate about theatre, but for illustration I have always tried something special.<\/p>

My journey in illustration has always been a constant struggle with colours and textures. I tried many techniques and many styles, but I never felt satisfied with the result or the process. I started to see illustration as a tool for communicating (trivial, I know). In my illustrations (inspired mainly by children illustrated books) I paint mostly animals and I like to share curiosities about the animals I illustrate and create a series of illustrations inspired by current news regarding animal rights, endangered species and general injustices towards those who don't have a voice to speak up. My aim is to depict the vulnerability of animals and raise awareness towards animal rights.<\/p>

About Bruna:<\/strong>
<\/p>

I was born in Brazil and spent my whole childhood in nature. Untouched forests and beaches, the sounds of birds, little monkeys peeking through the window. As an adult I realized that things that were routine for me, that I almost took for granted, could actually one day disappear and become fading memories.\u00a0<\/p>

It has become increasingly important to me to help any initiative that aims to help preservation of the natural world and the communities that live in harmony with it, anywhere in the world, but especially in developing countries.<\/p>

When I was designing this project I wanted to understand\u00a0 Shongweni. I then came across the story of this family who had lost their home, and saw this picture of this woman. She inspired me to depict her in a position of serenity. I chose the birds to symbolize freedom, as I truly believe that all living beings deserve to live a peaceful and prosperous life. Lastly I chose to depict the water hyacinth, which I came to learn is used as biofuel as a sustainable alternative for the communities.\u00a0<\/p>

I hope this design can help Shongweni and all its inhabitants live a harmonious life!<\/p>

About Liane:<\/strong><\/p>

I am a 33 year old female residing in Cape Town. Full time graphic designer (specialising in packaging & print), part time drawing purely for recreational purposes right now. I like to experiment with drawing, but at this moment I am in love with working with black ink as a medium. I love how adding simple black lines together can end up being so many different and striking images as an end result.<\/p>

I have always wanted to give something back, but it is hard to find the people that really need the help. And it is even more rare if those that need it is doing something you believe in. That is why I didn\u2019t even hesitate to respond to Quo Vadis Africa's post when I saw it. I am not in a position to donate my time in the sense of physically being with them and volunteering as asked for on their website, but I am in a position to volunteer my time, expertise and talent making them a drawing to use on t-shirts.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

What I wanted to show in my design is nature (animals as well as plants) and sustainability.The focus image is that of a KUDU. The reason I chose a KUDU is because not only is it already an icon well-known for nature conservation as it is part of the SANPARK logo, but also because the KUDU is one of the animals being conserved at the Shongweni Nature Reserve who will benefit from the sales of these t-shirts. The KUDU is made out of leaves, to bring across the link between animals and plants, and that this link is inextricable.<\/p>

Sustainability. I had a think about sustainability and what this truly means. For me, it boiled down to having respect for the 4 elements of nature (fire, water, earth and air) in every step of supply chain. Everything we have in this world comes from, or needs, these 4 elements to be in order for us to use as resource. My name is Candice, I am a yoga instructor with a passion for art. I was born and raised on Reunion Island, then relocated to Namibia, where I stayed for 5 years, and am now currently living in South Africa \u2013 Cape Town. As an environmentalist, I try to live as eco-conscious as I can, from minimalizing my use of plastic waste and cutting certain food out of my diet to supporting eco-friendly businesses and organizations. I had the pleasure to come across one of Quo Vadis Africa\u2019s posts while scrolling through social media. The post was a campaign, calling artists to create a piece helping promote nature conservation and supporting Quo Vadis Africa\u2019s generous actions towards communities in need of help. I was instantly drawn to it and wanted to know more about how I could help support this incredible cause.<\/p>

The piece depicts two individuals saluting the sun \u2013 a sign of respect. The symmetrical aesthetic represents the \u201cbalance between people and nature\u201d, both depicted in the piece. Ultimately, I wanted the artwork to show the gratitude and respect we should have towards mother nature for everything she has given us. The two people symbolize harmony amongst humans and their respect for nature.\u00a0<\/p>

About Valinda:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

I am Valinda Lombard, an artist based in Gauteng, South Africa.\u00a0 Art is exciting, empowering and an expression of love. For me, it is not just about putting pencil to paper, or brush to canvas, it is a way of seeing the world, a way of expression, often a compulsion.\u00a0 I simply must create and explore my world and my imagination.<\/span><\/p>

Art brings colour into my life and I enjoy seeing people appreciating the art I create. Being able to move people intellectually or emotionally through the art I have created is a wonderful and fulfilling feeling. The pride and sense of accomplishment after I\u2019ve finished a great sketch or painting is exhilarating.<\/span><\/p>

Inspiration to donate:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

I cannot see my life without having nature as part of it. Since my childhood days we have always had animals living with us.\u00a0 I can say the same for plants, flowers, shrubs, trees.\u00a0 My parents loved animals and had a beautiful garden and I grew up loving and appreciating the same things in life and, together with my husband, are living that life at the moment, showing and teaching our children to appreciate nature in all its form.\u00a0 Conservation, and more importantly, preservation is nothing without education.\u00a0 Children should be taught from a young age to respect and preserve nature.<\/span><\/p>

I enjoy being outdoors and have respect for any form of animal or plant life, therefore it is heart-breaking for me to read about animals being trapped and slaughtered, or plants being uprooted and smuggled for man\u2019s greed and unfounded medicinal beliefs. About Laura:<\/strong><\/p>

Hi! My name is Laura and I am an aspiring artist and designer. I really enjoy being creative, and when I heard that Quo Vadis Africa were in need of help in creating a new line of merchandise, I just had to reach out to them and offer to donate my talents. I love the natural world, I think it is full of pure beauty and I believe we should all be doing everything we can to protect it.<\/span><\/p>

Whilst coming up with the concept ideas for the design, I ensured to include concepts that would show what this charity is all about - Biodiversity - Life - Sustainability, that is why I chose to implement those three key words in my design. I wanted to create something that would capture what kind of work they do and why. The setting sun radiates the beauty of our world, and the animals walking in front of it show not only the life on our planet, but that Quo Vadis Africa work with a range of animals, from Kingfishers to Bats, to Giraffes and Otters and also a range of reptiles including the Monitor Lizard and the African Python.
